Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

I got some eggs from Kari the Sunday before last, and I have 16 chicks developing! I'll keep you posted as to how they come out! They are due in two weeks.

I'm excited to see how many silver type chicks hatch out. If I get enough silvers from your eggs as well as from Glenn, I'm hoping to have a nice breeding group by this fall and then hatch out silvers as fast as the eggs come! :)

Kari- I was talking with Trish about having a booth at the Eastern Iowa Poultry Association's poultry show this fall. Maybe we could get a few flyers printed out with pictures of the original birds, history, and current breeders. Maybe a few of us with Silvers can get them out to the show and possibly we could get a pair or two together to auction off? Proceeds going to the club? Just a thought.........

Hey folks! As the Iowa Blue Standard Committee has been busy working on establishing what the original Iowa Blue looks like as well as the history of the breed, I thought I'd share with you all a few pictures that we've come across. These pictures have come from past breeders who, unfortunately, do not currently raise Iowa Blues. While the quality isn't great, it does give us a glimpse as to what these birds were originally created to look like. Enjoy!

In the above photo of "Herman" does he have a rose comb? The photos are great and its interesting to see the difference in the hens from the earliest to the later photos.

Great photos and great sluthing Curtis, our Iowa Blue investigational historical reporter, extrordinaire!

I will get the most recent photos added to the IBCC archive collection and hopefully get us a nice body of literature to put up for historical value on the Iowa Blue!
