Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

I think you're right. I like #1. Just clarifying, he is SP correct? Could you message me your price for him?

Yes, they are all Silver Penciled. They could be difficult to tell from the Duckwings, but so far those all have almost all black on their breast and very light legs so I can tell which are which. I only have 2 of them anyway. The Birchen/Grey have only black wing feathers.

Freia I have four lookalikes to your girl, all very nice conformation, plus a cockeral of the same colors, the others are various Birchens, getting darker, one showing some barred, dont know where that came from but she is thick and great temperament. I am hoping all will show lighter hackles as they age. I do like their thick conformations, only have one cockeral looking 'leghorny', but he will have more time to develop.

So far they are all looking good, and have great temperaments.

Life goes on.

Ok, I'm not very good at telling the difference between SP and Silver Grey yet. I'll learn someday!

I'm not sure I can tell the males apart either except I keep track of which ones are born yellow

. The females are easy, since they look totally different. So far my Silver Grey males all have spangling, but sometimes the Silver Penciled do too. I can certainly see why attempts to save this breed have been difficult.
This is a Silver Penciled with splashy lacing

This SP has spangles.

They both look similar to this as chicks, so I think the difference is the pattern gene.

This is a Silver Grey/duckwing. He was born yellow.

I think unless you know what they looked like as chicks, you might not be able to tell them apart as adults.

Got in our ribbons for the shows! They'll look so good up on our breed's displays at the shows!

A sneak peek...

What is more desirable at this point, spangles or splashy lacing?

^^ This...

So important to remember in so many things. Life goes on. She is what she is and I adore her. If her eggs are small forever, then we have the most decadent bite-sized snacks ever. And I will love the little bird just as much.

thank you.
