They will be going in the incubator tomorrow an then the start of the dreaded 21 year waiting period lol

Hehehe, so long and yet so fast! My corn snakes take 70 days (give or take) and 3 years to reach maturity, so I'm greatly enjoying the rate at which chickens incubate and grow!

Now, if I could just get some snow to clear out so these chicks can move outside!

On day 8 of our incubation : things are looking real good for the IaB eggs & all but a couple of the Delaware/IowaBlue mix are looking good also. Even the 3 IaB/RSL mix seem good so far too

Picture night for the brown chicks. I've been tagging photos of them with their id numbers to be able to look back on them at different stages. Just curious what colors/patterns turn into what.





Lil' Blue getting bigger. Less than impressed with the photos today. (A mixed breed - 3/4 IB, 1/4 Amerauca x Marans)


This little chick was a late hatcher, got stuck in the egg and had to be broken free. The first night had trouble with its legs and wanted to be trampled, so put it in a cup to strengthen the limbs. Thomas watched over it like a hawk, telling off the other chicks if they tried to peck at his chickie or knock him over in his cup. He's up and walking fine now, though has one toe that is still a little bent. Thomas mother henned this chick for over an hour (which is a long, long time in 4-year-old time.)

I am surprised how those little dark blobs dart around in the egg! We can't wait to see what we get with IaB's for our first hatch as I think 9 of them are all developing right now.

The "DelaBlues" should be pretty too!

We had one IaB candle session where the chick moved so close to the edge of the shell we saw a small dark eyeball! That one will be named Isis or Isabelle for a girl, Ivan or Igor for a boy

Of course we could name generic and call him/her "EYE owa" hee hee

Well I took advantage of today's unusually warm weather to put fresh bedding in the coop and make arrangements for more chicks. I haven't forgot about getting pictures of my flock, and now that their pen looks decent, that's the first thing on my to do list for my winter break, part 2 ;-). Hope everyone's hatching is going well. I'm still struggling but am installing heated pads in the IB nesting boxes, so hopefully that will make a difference.
