I'm interrupting this thread to offer three free Iowa Blue chicks for pick up to anybody in Northern California. I know its a long shot. I received three as packing peanuts on a Sand Hill order of dorkings. I don't have space to raise multiple breeds. Two are brown with white on the chest. One is more black and white. They were hatched 10/22/14. I participate in NPIP if it matters to you.
You can click on the photo to enlarge. The first three are the same chick, the next one is the dark chick, and the final two are the last chick.

It has been a bad year for pictures since both my decent cameras have problems, but here are a few from my flock. Currently I have over 50 hens and pullets that are silver or smokey. My birchen girls are mostly gone, except for one nearly perfect hen from last year and a few older ones. I did hatch some charcoals by crossing a silver Sandhill roo over my birchen hens.

This is one of my Smokey cockerels out of a Sandhill roo over my hens (left) and a Charcoal I hatched from Curt's eggs (right).

Same Smokey as above. He is about 8 months old now, and I kept him as backup despite the white earlobes.

8 month old Silver roo and year old hens in the back ground

It was my goal to convert my layer flock from the "black" of all the birchen hens to the "blue" of silver!

GOOD MORNING ALL!!

It has been a very long time since I've posted, and most of you may be wondering if I fell of the wagon along they way......I'm still here!

I'm hopeful that as winter comes along, things will slow down some and I can become an active participant in the conversation again. To you all who have been keeping the dialog going....THANK YOU!!!

I want to send a quick note letting everyone know that we're planning on having an official club meet Saturday November 29 at the Eastern Iowa Poultry Association's annual show in Iowa City. We're shooting for a 1:00pm meeting time, but will flex that time if the Iowa Blues are being judged at that time.

Feel free to stop by for the meeting and to see the birds that will be on display!

I actually got the 29th off from work so can make the meeting! And the show! I'm too excited!!! Maybe I'll even manage to get pictures of my little IA Blue flock to show off since I think they're pretty cool. : ) Tried to upload some a few months ago but messed it up. I've never been to a poultry show before so will probably wander around lost for a while before latching onto someone with IA Blue's for directions! Can't wait!!!!

Just a note to remind everyone of a commitment, to Living History Farms in Des Moines. I volunteered a flock of Iowa Blues to them. They will take them as chicks, it will be a great promotion for the breed. Not sure when they will want the chicks but I would like to now how many of you are willing to contribute to this project?
It might be good agenda item for the meeting?
Sorry that we will be unable to be there at least in person.

Eric

Sad to say I won't be able to make that show. I work the 29th all day
