Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

American Iowa sounds funny to me, but could see putting America at the end of the name, like Iowa Blue ... of America.

I like short and sweet, starts to get to be a mouthful over 3 or 4 words.

Great, love the listing of the numbers!
Can't get all the numbers right now, but I held one rooster and 4 pullets over winter with plans to bring in more this spring.

The rooster has a nice straight 5 point comb, no brown, decent coloration don't have a weight on him. The hens, one is too dark, hardly any lacing, but the best overall body/size/appearance other than color. Comb flops over, medium sized. One has moderate lacing, decent size, comb flops as well, don't remember the number of points. One pullet is tiny compared to the others, think there is a midget gene in there or something, but she's cute. Doubt I'll keep her to breed, but cute. The third has a small straight comb, moderate size, color has a tish of gold in there, I think.

I plan to order a 25 pack from Sandhill again this spring, would like to pick up some from the other breeders around as well, to get as much diversity as I can.

Hoping we get a gathering going this spring for swapping/yapping.

Some pictures. Please pardon the mess. They have been locked inside the last 2+ weeks. I need to clean.

Nice boy you have there. :) They look so handsome all grown out. Mine are still working on gaining their full adult plumage.

My bator only has 20 eggs of 40 in it. Anyone have Iowa blue eggs to send. I can pay shipping with paypal.
I have 2 IB chicks from mrhienz line, but i have no idea of the sex of them yet. Just 2 is not a breeding program, even if they are male and female.
If you have any extra IB eggs and would be kind enough to send, please PM me.

Sooo excited! Just picked up my two new IBs from Anderson8505. The boy the posted pics of earlier - is gorgeous! Can't wait to see him mature! And the little bitty that just hatched has the chipmunk stripes going. Hoping for a pair from these two, but with my luck, maybe not. Probably going to try to get an order from Sand Hill. MrHeinz, these are birds from your eggs. What lines are they from again? I know I've read before, but I don't remember right now.

My other chickens are Sussex, one light, two coronation, and one speckled. The coronations are the same age as the IB boy, however he is much smaller than they. I do believe the two birds have similar finishing weights. Unless he puts on a lot of weight between now and six months from now, I'd say there's definitely a lot of work to be done on the size issue.

I got mine from Karimw. They were her replacement. I have pictures a few posts back. She got her IB from a guy in Illinois who breeds them. His original were from Sandhill and Ideal. Have fun with them.
