I believe Ideal has Iowa Blues and does mention that these birds are birchen, which is primarily black and white.

I would not buy Iowa Blues from Ideal. Go with Sandhill. That way you know you will get true ones. I ordered from Ideal once (Iowa Blues), they died in route. So I ordered from Sandhill. The chicks looked so different. From a good source I have been told Ideal has crossed them with something to improve their egg laying. The chicks I got from Sandhill were very lively. They all made it to adult hood. However they liked to roam a lot and the fox seems to favor them. I'm down to just one hen.

I have seen a few different colors of Iowa blues. The color I see the most is like a silver pencilled but not as clean as normal silver pencilled. I have also seen some that are silver as in silver leghorn color, and I have also seen some that are a dark pencilled, almost black with some faint white in the feathers forming a poor pencilled pattern. From a distance they look like birchen but without breast lacing. I say go with sandhill, they have birds that are more pure.
