(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We purchased six day old chicks back in February for a May delivery. We lost one in transit and picked up a Blue Cochin baby from Theisen’s to make up our six allowance.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We currently have six 17 week olds
(3) What breeds do you have? We have a Black Copper Maran, Blue Cochin, Partridge Olive Egger, Easter Egger, Super Blue Egger, and a Cuckoo Bluebar

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? So far the little cuddly butts are not laying so right now the best part is all the free compost!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? We have a massive garden, and I am learning different preservation methods for storing all our delicious food coming in. I also started making bread and cooking more from scratch this year.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I live in Iowa with my husband and three kids (18, 16, and 13) We have 3 dogs (Bulldog, St Bernard and Rottweiler) and 4 cats we rescued over the years.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D I just found BYC today, joined immediately and cannot wait to see what it has to offer 😁

Awe WELCOME here you'll learn bunches here. What a cool mix of hens you have. Can't wait till you get those pretty eggs. They are loved way more than I realized when I got mine 2 years ago. We also have a preserver group on here too. I too "put by food" have just started my first waterglassing and dehydrating eggs this year. What a great time to learn all these things for you all. I live next door in SW Neb. good ol corn country. I scored some wheat and planted it in my grazing boxes, they love them. Enjoy your girls.
