IR thermometer - funny

Picked up a few chicks from Big R today (our equivalent of TSC). We have 12 coming next week, but DH just couldn't wait any longer, though he blamed the idea on DS (who is 15 months!)

Anyway, checking the brooder temp this evening with a couple different thermometers, and when I pointed that IR thermometer in the brooder, the girls went nuts trying to chase the little red dot! So cute, I think I have some good bug eaters in the making!

My 5-week old chicks acted terrified of the laser-pointer...hubby now calls it "the big red monster." I thought maybe it hurt their little eyes or something, but I've seen several posts now with people saying their chicks love to chase the dot. Maybe my girls will get used to it. It seems like something they should really like.
