Thank you SallyF! I'm always concerned for my free range chickens as I have seen a couple of St Bernards come through the yard a few times before we got the birds and once they had cornered me in the garden. I haven't seen them since then (I had called the dog officer after that one) but I always worry they will return. Anyways, I like to read these stories to learn how things can go down when a dog attacks so I know what I might expect if I ever have to defend my flock. Luckily I do know that here in NH chickens are allowed to be protected with deadly force from being "worried" or killed by domestic dogs.
