I have a 6 month old RIR cockrel. He seems healthy, normal weight with no fluctuations, acting normal, eating new country organics wheat-free feed, plus dried mealworms as treats, occasionally some sprouts.
Just noticed poo on his butt 2 days ago. I brought him inside to clean it off and it was really stuck on there so I gave him an epsom salt bath.
I noticed his skin around his backside was red and mildly irritated. There is dried skin type white stuff at the base of some of his larger feathers.
I looked for mites/lice and didn't see anything. I also checked the other 3 hens in my flock and under his wings, didn't see anything.
Since his bath he has been inside, with electrolytes and probiotics. Droppings look normal.
I would like to take care of this myself before it gets worse. So far I don't see any missing feathers, just the redness on his skin (a little around his vent too) today he's slightly more red around his vent than these photos
They live in an outdoor coop and run/yard, I use extra fine shavings from tractor supply for bedding.
