Yes, I am tallking about inside the coop, not in the run. There is no escape, but it is a bit cramped as far as "fly" down space goes.
I think I will lower it to 36" or so. When I put it at 4', I was thinking how chickens feel safer being up high. Then I got it in and it just seemed high, so I put one of the chickens on it, and she seemed a bit freaked out, like "how am I going to get down?!" Since they are roosting 12" off the ground right now, 3' will feel high in comparison.
The nest boxes won't be high, 12-18" up max. I might just have them on the floor. Not sure yet. Depends on if I am going to make boxes or use totes or something. (I tend to be indecisive. lol) I want to put the right by the door so we can just open it up and get eggs. Not planning on adding an exterior box, so that will make it easiest. Might add a tiny door to the nest boxes, depending on how I set them up. I might just do one double size community box. I only have 8 chickens, so that might work. Sorry, I digress...
