I finally got my hands on our township ordinances and they don't say anything about chickens, poultry, livestock, etc. Just dogs and birds. The chapter is entitled: "Animals"... and nothing else I can find says anything about other animals.

Perhaps I'm not illegal?

D

Added: Okay, I'm probably still illegal... as it seems the Animals chapter is chapter 145... and chapters 146 through 166 are not included. Crap!!!!

The way I see in a chicken would be this:

Cockerals and Pullets
|
Chickens/Chicks
|
Poultry
|
Pollo Gallus
|
BIRDS!

So does that clear the problem? Otherwise, they HAVE to be specific because "birds" are generalized term which it can mean anything from a hawk, eagle to chicken and kiwi/emus.

There might be some other place in the ordinance or state regs that say something to the effect of chicken=poultry=livestock

Sometimes you have to dig deep to make sure you understand everything they're trying to say.

A chicken is a bird and when people that I don't really know or trust ask me if I have any pets, I tell them I have some birds. If they ask me what kind, I say "Bantams." Some people know what they are, some don't, but a chicken is definitely a bird. After all they have wings and feathers.
