Is A Coop Ever REALLY Finished??

Don't tear down the wall! Make an opening, fine, but that wall will come in handy when you need a broody pen or growout pen or jail for a pecker or....

I'm also in Wisconsin and also built that same playhouse. I ALSO added on to the run and even though I just have 4 bantams right now I'm trying to come up with a plan to add on to the house portion. I ALSO was thinking about an exterior nest box. We cheeseheads think alike! I'll try to post pictures later. I just finished a tractor for my little hens, too, and they really seem to enjoy it. I, however, did not enjoy the big hawk eyeing them up from the tree next to the tractor!
My silly husband thinks this is the last coop we'll ever build. Silly, silly.

Here's my coop. I'm thinking about extending the end of the house with the window and adding an exterior nest box.

Thanks for posting this, HarryBun! It's good to know we're not the only ones. Your playhouse coop turned out terrific! I like your tractor, too. Ours is similar but without the little coop. All we have besides the A-frame on wheels covered with chicken wire is a roost bar.

We have hawks here, too, right in Madison. As well as raccoons, coyotes, and other critters. The hawks in our neighborhood have been known to make off with birds from yard feeders and chipmunks!

I find it really cumbersome to post pictures on this site. You can see more photos of our coop and birds at my blog, if you're interested.

Where in WI are you, BTW?

THIS ONE IS BEHIND THE MAIN COOP, FOR OUR ROOS, TURNS OUT WE COULD ONLY PUT 2 OF THEM IN THERE, THEY WANTED TO FIGHT WITH THE OTHER TWO EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE ALL TOGETHER IN THE MAIN COOP!!!!

AN EMERGENCY COOP FOR THE BANTAMS, ITS BESIDES THE MAIN COOP...AND TEMPORARY UNTIL OUR OTHER COOP IS MADE NEXT TO THE NEW ONE, THIS COOP WILL BE USED MAYBE FOR THE NEW HATCHINGS DUE AUG 7TH...

COOPS, COOPS AND COOPS...NEVER STOPS...ITS LIKE ONE CHIP, YOU JUST CANT HAVE "ONE"

Hi WisconsinGardenChick. I like how you made the front of the house open up on your playhouse coop. We made ours much like the plans, but I can swing the front open on hinges after taking out 3 screws on one side. I only need to do that once a week or so since I can reach through the pop door to scoop up most debris, but it's kind of irksome to do. Another change I have to think about.... I also have all the fixings to set up an automatic door, but so far I enjoy going in and letting the girls out in the mornings so I haven't set it up. That may change in the winter....
Two weeks ago the chickens were screaming away and I ran out to see a rotten fox checking out the coop. Before I got chickens I would've been so excited to see him there! He hasn't been back, yet, but I check the perimeter of the coop daily to be sure no one has been digging. We live in New Berlin. I marked my calendar for the Madison coop tour and hope I can make it.

Some very cute coops on here.

I don't think it is ever finished. By the time you get all the little odds and sods done, it is time to repaint
