I was wondering if a Silkie is a best egg laying chicken. Please tell me if Silkies are best egg laying chickens!

Their eggs are small (so they don't go as far as larger eggs from a bigger breed), and they tend to go clucky a lot. I don't think they are renowned for being a top egg layer. Lovely chooks, though.

There was a breed focus thread on Silkies a while back that you might enjoy reading:

As @potato chip said, they aren't the best at egg laying but they are known to be good broodys (some people will use their Silkies to sit on fertile eggs).

How much eggs will a Silkie lay?

My silkies lay every day in a good month, then every 2-3 days in a bad one. Right now they are 2-3 days due to it being winter, and the amount of eggs varies from 0 to 3 out of my 6 laying hens, one of which has recently started laying. They are also prone to broodiness, great if you want to hatch your own chicks, but annoying if you just want eggs as the hen will stop laying eggs until you snap her out of it, which can be difficult with a stubborn broody... :lau
