I have a bird that I'm very fond of. She's a gray EE, and completely silky. She came in my batch of EE's from the feed store, which I believe came from Ideal.
Is a silkied EE something fun? I mean, when it comes time to set some eggs, would you favor hers? She's a good layer of medium green eggs, btw.
I don't intend to try to sell these really, I'm just sort of curious if this is something special or fun that other people might be interested in having. I'll try to get a picture later when J gets home with his camera phone :)
I'd love some input on how the silkiness gene works. Is it dom/recessive/incomplete dom, etc? The males are production leghorns, should I see any silkied chicks in the F1 generation?

I had bought a couple chicks before that where part silkie part EE but they looked like EE and lay color eggs.
I had an other one and she looked like a silkie.
It depends on wich genes are dominant, I believe

No topknot, clean green legs. I suppose if I'm being realistic, she's a bit hideous. Kind of looks like she's been dipped in ashes. Her face is quite fierce and dinosaur looking, more so than my other EE's.
I think she's cool though

I would *love* it if she felt like getting broody, especially because she's a decent size and has a huge fatbottom, I could fit lots of eggs under her!

Yes, pics please!

The blue splash silkied ameraucanas from that other thread are causing quite a stir! They seem to be breeding true. If it really starts catching on, you may have something worthwhile there! People love silkies, and they love colored eggs. I would definitely hang onto her!!

JMO , even though your chicken has green legs , she would still be a valueable asset to the developement of that other strain if she lays blue eggs and only has four toes . You might benefit by contacting some of those people involved in that project .

The questions "is a silkied EE interesting" is one of those questions to which there is no good answer: "honey, do you think I'm beautiful?" "dear, does it look like I'm putting on some weight?" "does it matter if I breed a green asil with a purple polka-dotted d'uccle?"
