I would like to plant some azalea bushes in my yard. In order to do so I need to put some special fertilzer in the soil to make it acidic. ITs a powder you mix into the soil when you plant. Is this ok for chickens to peck in? its says to keep away from kids/pets. I suppose you could put the fertilizer down in the hole and not on top where they scratch around. ANybody done this??

Where do you live, azaleas grow like weeds in the acidic soil here, also chicken compost is acidic also there are certain types of leaves that are too- w/o using chemicals...

(also azaleas are listed as toxic to eat... cats/animals)

HI FireTigeris
I live in the Bay Area- the soil is not acidic in my yard. I* have azaleas there and they havent bloomed or grown in a year ! LOL I would like to have the flowers however I dont want to risk making the soil dangerous.

Thanks
Rene'
