It isn't a whole lot. Still a 1.6l (1641cc) but with billet rods, lightened and fully balanced and counterweighted crank and flywheel, a mild cam, ported and polished heads with larger valves, and a pair of single barrel 40mm carbs and electronic ignition, all exiting from a 1.5" merged header and silencer. It's only about 75 hp crank, but it will keep up nicely in freeway traffic and with a 4.37:1 ring and poinion in the gearbox, it's lightning quick in zipping in and out of traffic and off the line. Lowering it helped a TON with stability at speed, since the stock height had a tendency to push air under the front and lift it up. No issues with it 2" off the ground up front. And fortunately we have well maiontained and flat roads here so it's not a hazard to drive it that low.I thought so!![]()

I want a turbo so bad in the little ford fiesta road/hillclimb/Khanacross car, but I'm still on my P2 license, and that is restricted to no turbosand as the saying goes, "Once you go turbo, you never go back"
Well, it's all about improving combustion and reducing weight. The crank and flywheel balancing means a smoother, higher revving rotating mass, and widens your power band. Lighter rods and pistons means less power lost back to the combustion process and again helps with higher revs. You know what wins you get with cams, more fuel in, more power out. Same with the heads. Porting/polishing smooths out the air charge as it comes into the combustion chamber which reduces turbulence and give you better fuel atomization. Better atomization = bigger bang. And right back to "more power out". Bigger valves in the heads mean more air/fuel in from the cam, and more efficient exhaust.That is quite modified in my book.
Cams are on the wish list for our rally car, but funds say otherwise.
