Is anyone growing pumpkins?

Would it help to harden my pumpkins off to pull the vines and let them die? I have too many pumpkins already and just don't need more growing.



FYI, I did our winter squash and pumpkins by putting the seeds right in to piles of composted horse manure I picked up free off craigslist. I have a butternut squash that is over a foot long and nearly as wide. (I must have had a leak in that soaker hose...cause there are a bunch of big ones)
