Hello,

So I finally got my chicken run fortified. We have hardwire attached to the outside of the run, then we have hog pens attached to the run and then maybe 1-2 feet from the run we have an electrical fence. Of course, the top of the run is enclosed and on half of the top we have a black covering that will allow air and rain to filter through. I'm not worry so much about the top as I was about the 3 wild dogs that make their way onto our property every now and then, but the coop is secure as well as the run.

Back to my question, the title of this post: I currently have 6 chickens 4 are 4 months old (2-Easter Egger, Black Copper Maran and a Black Silver Laced Waydotte) and then 2 other Easter Eggers. I really want to get a couple Cream Legbar chicks. I know they won't be able to go out into the coop for a few months; they will be day old chicks when I get them. But my question would be; how do I introduce them. By that time, the others will be 6 and 7 months old, and the chicks would be around 3 months old. Its will also be very warm down here as I am in NW Florida and today it is already 81 degrees and will be like that for now on.

TIA

Dawn

Everything is doable.
When you have your CCL chicks, when they are old enough to be outdoors,, fashion a separation of chicken wire inside your run.
Then for night time, keep then inside coop,,, inside a large dog crate.
Observe how they interact, and eventually under your supervision let them mingle together.
Pecking order will always be a factor in all flocks. As long as there is no real cruelty, and real injury, things,, will work out.

Oh okay, that's what I was thinking. I do have a xlarge Kong dog cage, that might be too big, so I will get a small one, I also have a xlarge dog kennel for traveling, was thinking of using that one it has the grates in the front and grates on the sides, so they can still see out, and I still have alot of hardwire and chicken wire that I can use for separation.

thank you for the reply. :D

I added a legbar rooster so their chicks will carry the blue egg gene.
I started out with brown leghorns and welsummers but their chicks are a mix of all 3.They lay a lot of different color eggs but they're excellent layers and are good for free ranging. We don't have wild dogs here thankfully! They're worse than a coyote in my opinion! I love your set up and hope you can find some legbars. If they're sold out in the hatcheries you might find some locally(sometimes you can find hatching eggs on eBay too)Wishing you the best!
