Is anyone here using thier wood stove yet?!

We have a wood burning furnace in the basement and have started it up! gets so hot in here sometimes that the windows are open an if someone leaves a door open...it is ok! Doesn't cost us anything.

Living in the middle of our acreage ..we are surrounded by woods so wood is no problem. High utility bills are a problem thus the wood burning furnace.

We have had our woodstove going for almost a month, non stop!.....Really feels good today with snowflakes.....brrrrr.......

My mom turned us into gardeners by feeding us veggies from a can , then feeding us the same things from the garden. We knew that one way or another we were going to have to eat vegetables, and we darn sure wanted the tasty garden ones over the mushy canned things!

I wish I knew that tip a few years ago when I was getting my son to eat his veggies

Any ways, he is not at all a picky eater, he loves to eat right off the vine in the garden ( I use no chemicals at all).

Oh yes! My wood stove is ALWAYS warm and toasty! We have propane backup....and the firewood is FREE! Just today....we picked up 2 truckloads of free ELM. And tomorrow, will get another load...free for the taking. We have lots of friends with woods...and want help "cleaning " them out. We are also "cleaning" out our woods...so free wood there as well! I just love the warmth of a fire!!

havent had the main furnace ( oil) running yet this year...dont plan on turning it on at all if i can help it. We have the fireplace in the main living room which keeps up toasty while we are hanging out in the evenings...the furnace wont let the house go below 45-50 i think is the lowest...good electric blanket serves to keep us warm overnight, then up, shower, and off to work. Saves us a fortune on heating!

Yup, ours has been lit most nights for the past week or so here in CT. It is a wood burning furnace in the basement that connects to the hot water system. If the stove gets too cold the oil furnace takes over. My DH gets a lot of wood free from friends who have land but don't burn. Love that!

Since the temp has dropped in our area I have been using both of our stoves. Could not heat our house without them. We have an old two story farmhouse which is 145 years old. It's hard work to gather the wood but it's worth it on those really cold days and nights.

Could I have the black walnut cookie recipe? My tree was loaded this year and I need to use them up.
