Is anyone married to a non-chicken lover?

I was the one that was in the con catagory and let it happen if "I didn't have to help". Now I'm on my second coop and pricing bators.

My hubby of 3 years said I could do what I wanted as long as he didn't have to help, cause he did not like the idea of chickens.
But than he volunteered to make the hen house and coop (guess he thought mine would look funny). Then he got attached to one of the hens and says he will get her diapers and bring her inside before he ever gets rid of her.
Now he said he wants another coop for more chickens. So much for his not liking chickens.

My husband didn't like children or pets. His bad luck he married me.

We had four children and more pets than you can count. He says that sometimes life just doesn't work out like you expect and you have to roll with the punches. He was the one that sat for hours with the kids, grading papers beside them while they did their homework. He is the only one I trust now to take care of my animals if I cannot be there. He knows how much I love them and does not shortcut or "forget" to do all the little things I ask.

I tell him just think if he hadn't been smart enough to marry me, he'd probably have wasted his life living alone all these years on a yacht or something, with only playboy bunnies for pets.

My DH was totally against it but finally relented after much arm twisting. That was last May. Fast forward till now and he just had me order plans to build a new coop for the girls.

He says he likes them more than he likes my Beagle. In fact, he says if I get rid of the Beagle (not happening) I can have more chickens!

My hubby grew up in a small town in Mexico where everyone had a chicken, a goat and a dog. He claims doesn't love or even like my chickens, he says he feels the same about them as the veggie plants in the garden - they are just food. However, last winter when we hatched 12 silkie chicks, he did mention them being "cute" a few times and said if they didn't sell it would be ok to keep them. One of the chicks struggled in the beginning and I asked him to cull it - instead he took it out to the workshop and nursed it back to health

Well my DH (who is just the best guy in the world I think!) who after buying my chicken coop and has made up the design for the interior AND the run states: "You know I love building stuff with you, and I will do all the construction, but you know I am not going to feed or clean the chickens?" "You do realize that?" So I would have to say at this point, he just isn't involved with them. Then today he sends me an email at work telling me about a website that sells the fencing that I want, netting and all kinds of supplys that we will need! He only first agreed on the chickens because he said no to horse, cow, mini goats, mini donkey and a mule! (we have 7 dogs & four cats!) I am still planning where to put up all my farm fence, we will see!! Theresa
