Is anyone using sand in their chicken coops

Hi everyone,
I am new to chickens and just read an article about using sand in the chicken coop, I am wondering if anyone has done this and if so what is your opinion. My chicks wont be here for another 2-3 weeks so I am trying to get my coop set up. Thanks for any input.

Hi Tracy!
I am in Eastern Ohio (a former PA resident) and we are new to chickens this year. I have been using pine wood shavings and just read an article on using sand, as well as, a blog from a thread here, I think. If I could only remember who!
I had my husband pick up a couple bags of sand and I am going to give it a try in our one coop.We had to build a second because we over did the purchasing of chicks! A very newbie thing to do I think! LOL!

I want to read more about it, but I don't think it can hurt to try. I figure if it's a bust it won't be hard to go back to the shavings.

I can let you know if a few days what I think. if you like.
