So i am buying chickens to breed them and so the question naturally arises:Is it easy?

Do they breed like finches or lovebirds?Just keep them well-fed and the chicks will come rolling out?

P.S im sorry for asking sooo many questions but i am new to this and need all the knowledge i can get about chickens.

If you have a broody hen they will do all the work for you, you just need to give the broody hens a place away from the rest of the flock. I've always hatched eggs using an incubator though because I never had any reliably broody hens.

I've never raised any other birds so I don't know how they compare.

Well i am raising the chickens in this photo:
Are they easy to breed? The one on the floor is a rooster but young with 2 months till maturity and i bought it this morning.

Breeding chickens is very easy. In fact the birds may do all the work for you if you get some good broodies.

Breeding GOOD chickens is another thing entirely. That may be very difficult. Or not. You first have to decide on what your definition of a "good chicken" is.

Are you trying to just breed them so you have more chickens or are you breeding them to sell the chicks? The rooster kind of looks like a RIR and the hen looks kind of like a buff brahma, kind of.

Normally you get 3 - 6 hens to a rooster. If you only have one hen then the rooster might hurt it from mounting her too often.

If your hen won't go broody you are going to be stuck using an incubator to hatch out the eggs. You might be able to encourage her to go broody by not collecting the eggs and letting them sit in the nest.

If you want to get into chicken breeding I would suggest getting more than one hen. If you are breeding them to sell the chicks I suggest buying some good breeding stock of the same breed. People pay more for pure breds.
