Is Broodiness catching? All the hens in the coop went broody!!!

Pixie546 - poor 3rd broody... she needs at least ONE egg... sounds like she wants to be a mommy really badly.

I am about to go check on my potential 4th broody to see if she decided to stay the night.. or more importantly - if she leaves her pursuit of motherhood for the lure of the open yard.. with FRESH WATERMELON RIND..lol I have some eggs that arrived in the mail yesterday to put under her if need be. She will be a much better incubator than the ones I purchased..lol

Happy Weekend.. I have only 5 laying hens left.. who will go broody next????? Even the roosters are getting a bit upset...lol

I dont have enough brodies right now:( I have a broody MIllie Fluer on 3 SLb eggs an one broody black tailed white japanese tiny thing-no eggs for her as she is a nut job and I dont need her teaching chicks how to be like that! I think I have a broody LF cochin-she's been on a nest for 2 days-so she'll get 10 SLB eggs. I need 4 more broodies to take all the eggs I have to the side I want hatched!

oohh Terrilhb watch what you wish for..lol.. I did the same thing about a month ago.. and it is like a domino effect.. 4 of my 9 Buffs are now camping out on a nest.

Luckily I have some shipped eggs that need a warm place to develop.. the last of those 4 spent night #1 last night.. so seeing if she holds and then I have some good eggs for her hopefully. Sonew123.. I so know what you mean.. but now my egg production has taken a drastic cut.. because the broodies are all occupying the favorite upper nests.. no other hen is laying up there.. so hoping they accept the bottom nests.. they could explode if they don't find a desirable nesting spot soon...

OK! So it's 3 broodies in the big chickens coop, and now my fav silkie Henrietta is gone broody too!!!! I should use this chance to hatch some cool eggs! Wait---- 50 chickens already--- well what's a few more!

Yes.... Thats why I break them so quickly, Otherwise it's Oh, Gemma your broody again, okay, I'll set up the cage on the weekend... *weekend rolls around* FFS CINDER I ONLY HAVE ONE CAGE... DOOFY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOUR TOO BIG FOR THE BROODY CAGE, DONT YOU START

yepp... it happens

I was just wondering the same thing. I have a Welsh Harlequin duck that went broody (which was to be expected and part of why we selected the breed so yay! Even if she's on an infertile duck egg and some stolen chicken eggs.). But then the Indian Runner duck, a breed not known at all for broodiness, spent over a week squawking all over the property trying to get her friend to come out and graze. Then she gave up and joined her on the next. She only leaves for water and then sprints back.

Have you ever seen a duck sprint? It's hilarious.
