My hubby said "well it is spring" lol But I'm kinda glad though cuz I've been wanting broodies for awhile now. Its just kinda crazy none of them are even a year old yet, but I'm more surprised that my marans went broody before my silkie and my other cochin did. So is being broody contagious or what? lol!

Yes, it is definitely contagious! LOL, and I love it when we have an epidemic of broody! Last fall I had a sexlink, a BO, and a cross go broody all at the same time! Sadly, the BO didn't hatch any, the sexlink hatched one, but it died, and the cross hatched 5, 3 of which were roosters! So I only ended up with 1 hen in the end, because the other hen got taken by a hawk...

My sister has 8 chickens that all went broody, one after the other, so she keeps buying eggs off craigslist and from me to put under the hens to make their dreams come true! I have silkies that keep going broody, one just hatched out 6 lemon cuckoo orps for me. I have large breed hens too, including orpingtons, but none of them have gone broody yet.

How do you get the Lemon Cuckoo coloring on a Orpington? I love it!

She has production reds and some leghorns which I told her they dont go broody. She just got some buff orpingtons so I imagine when they get older they will.

I was just going to say that production reds are kind of like sexlinks (or Golden Comets, as some people would call them) and mine has gone broody the last 2 years! Hoping that she will do it again!!

I have an EE pullet that has only been laying for a week. I think she is trying to go broody. She spends about 70% of her time in the coop messing around in the laying boxes.

Out of the 6 pullet chicks I got last October my three EE are the only ones laying. I am still waiting on the BR, JG & SLW.
