Antoinnette age 3 a sultan. Her eggs have been like clockwork until she went Broody. We broke the broodiness in about three days which was probably a month ago. The past week she’s showing signs that she wants to lay by hopping in her nest box and spending maybe 20 minutes and then getting out. She didn’t display any symptoms of being egg bound or being uncomfortable. She just acted her normal self but every few days she would get the next box for a while. yesterday in the yard she suddenly expelled a yoke and perhaps a shell as membrane. The other chickens were at it so fast I only saw the yolk. She had a small pieceOf membrane hanging which I gently extract . She seemed to strain like there was more in there and I gently tried to check her with my finger but she really pro tested so I stopped. I love this little bird but don’t know how to proceed?I don’t think any yo broke inside herBut I’m sure she’s retained some membrane. Do I give her warm soaks and calcium like she’s egg bound? She’sBeen in the nest all morning. At 3 pounds can she take a whole calcium plus Dee or none at all? How often? Her diet has been layenaThen changed to purine all flock. Any advice would be certainly appreciated as I had said before I just love this little bird

If she is still straining and behaving "off", yes, give her a calcium tablet. She will swallow it no problem. Give one tablet per day until she's behaving normally again, then a tablet a day after that until her eggs come out with a proper shell.

Chickens in the northern hemisphere are starting to go into molt. This is a period where eggs can be compromised due to declining hormones and laying fatigue. It pays to be extra vigilant during this time as a hen can have an egg of poor shell quality collapse inside. If she continues to be lethargic, it might be wise to start her on an oral antibiotic in case yolk has caused bacteria to start growing in her oviduct.

Amoxicillin 250mg/per day for ten days is recommended. You can order it here. https://www.kvsupply.com/item/aqua-zole-250mg-tablets-60-count/P06186/
