Is candling really necessary?

I candle often... It helps me know when I should stop turing and raise humidity. For example, my peafowl egg usually hatch in 26 or 27 days, so I wait for the to get a certain look, then I stop turning and raise humidity, which is usually day 24 or 25, not day 26 like most websites suggest.
