Is Cocci possible at 6 days old? Lost our first chick.

I just happen to not have closed it out yet and got it from a link in @KikisGirls signature line..

@PerlAddict my concern for the temp of the water being held was with the corid in it, not knowing if it renders the corid ineffective, in the way that dog vaccines MUST be refrigerated to remain effective. I don't know though, everything becomes body temp once it goes down the throat.. right? I'm a major over thinker! :p Now I read and reread and don't even see you mention the Amprol. Maybe I got mixed up when you said you would start it if you saw signs in the rest of the chicks.. Sorry!

Glad the kiddos are doing well, I bet it brought you joy to see them all jumping around! A nice mid day break. :)

Even with my brooder set up being correct, (I have raised a lot of successful broods) I have lost too many shipped birds. 2 whole shipments from the hatchery, and 1/3 of another from a breeder (about 35, USPS messed up EVERY time, I think it's my route). Even feed stores get their chicks shipped and use sav a chick.. they just absorb the losses before we see them. 1 of my LFS won't release hers until they are 5 days old and she doesn't think anymore will die. Shipping is definitely a factor.

I'm very glad to hear the place you bought was responsive and supportive! :thumbsup I agree with them that it was not likely sour crop.

I just love to hear the little peeps! :love :wee

@EggSighted4Life - Since you like hearing little peeps, here is a short video from about 2 hours after the chicks arrived home.

The RIR that passed is the lighter colored one at about the 8 o'clock position in the video that runs up and gets water in the last second. She was pretty spritely at the time! The Barred Rock and the BO are my two most friendly so far. If you put your hand down in the brooder, they'll jump right up on it.

Ya, she did look pretty good in that video, and oh the peeps. (I watched it 3 times):love

Rocks and Orps are often friendly in my experience. Partly because they are confident birds. It really helps when you approach to use your hand down low and not be hovering overhead like a predator. Scoop them from the bottom if possible instead of grabbing from the top like a swooping eagle. Also as they get pin feather in they become more uncomfortable with handling so careful not to squeeze very tight then. We usually cup our hands around them loosely at that point. :old (I like the old guy emoji)

I just noticed your avatar, so sweet. :D

Thanks for sharing! More pics ALWAYS welcome. ;)
