Is Day 1 the "1st full 24 hours" or the day after you set the eggs

I set my coturnix eggs on 3/1 at 9 am. So at 1st I assumed that was day 1. Then I read a thread saying technically it is day 0. Well they are hatching today..
That either means they are hatching on day 17... or that they are hatching on day 16... But either way they are a little early. But which day is it?
Signed... a confused egg counter lol

Picture it like pieces on a gameboard. Start is the day you set your eggs. Hatch day is at the finish line. If you roll a six, do you count the start space? No. You start with the space after that.

Ah So then they are hatching on Day 16. Hmmm.. Maybe the temps were off a bit in this new incubator. Thank you for the answer. I had once read set at night and that is day 0 set in the morning and that is day 1. So I never really could discern. Thanks for clarifying :)

Actually it's supposed to be day 16 for button quail and coturnix quail, according to most sources, so you are not really early. Although when my buttons brood their own eggs, they hatch at day 18 and sometimes people experience the same in incubators - but then it's more likely their temp that's a little low, than yours that's too high.
