In an effort to save money we are thinking of using asphalt millings in our driveway instead of crushed stone. My chickens would have access to that area when free ranging. I know millings are a petroleum product which shouldn’t be ingested, so I was wondering if anyone who had a millings driveway that chickens had access to had problems with their birds eating it and/ or getting sick from it.

Was thinking about this and if the millings are old asphalt they should be pretty well dry and degassed so not as big a risk like fresh asphalt would be.

We had crushed pavement on our driveway, and had huge amounts of metal included, and have spent years with one of those big rolling magnets getting it all picked up. We were told when we ordered it, that it had already been sweeped with magnets, and should be okay.
Ask first! You don't want this to happen to you!
