is Dumor (dumour) a good feed brand?

I tried Dumor one time and noticed the new chicks did not feather out good at all compared to using my feed store brand. They did waste it more so then the other feed and pooped non stop! As for smell, I didn't really notice the difference on that, just not happy with the chicks growing super slow.

You can get really, really expensive dog food but what we use is Purina Pro Plan. I would say that among the premium brands it is somewhere in the middle. I don't know how much Ole Roy costs but a 38 lb bag of Pro Plan is $35 at Pet Smart. We end up paying about $23 after discounts. Purina has coupons they send you if you start mailing in labels. The coupons are for $7.00 off, then pet smart has a discount too which I think is $5.00. So we usually get $12 off the list price.

It actually costs more to feed a lower grade dog food because you have to give them so much more food. With the Pro Plan we don't just fill their bowls, we give a measured amount of food each day. Of course they are always able to beg scraps off of me or the kids.

If you think you might want to change food, do it slowly and mix the new food in with the old and slowly wean him away. If you change foods immediately, the dog will likely get sick. Their systems have to be slowly adjusted.

We used to feed Dumor, both scratch grain and layer crumbles, until last year, when we started getting bags that had a lot of hulls and bug poop. My chickens ate the nasty stuff, but they quit laying. We got some feed from Southern states, and it was even worse. Then we found a local small business who sells feed, I've gone blank on the name, "something Pride". I told him about the laying trouble, he suggested a bag of hog feed to start them laying again. It worked, they were laying agin in just a few days. Then we went back to crumbles and scratch. No problems since, and every bag of feed we've gotten from this fellow has been good feed.

The laying dropped off a bit lately, probably from the heat, so today I bought hog feed again to see if that helps.

I hadn't thought about it, but I think the poop doesn't stink as bad, either. I haven't had to clean out the coop so often.

I feed my chickens dumor but I am going to change to purina layena because of all the bad things I have heard about dumor. my chickens poop does really smell and not like other peoples chickens poop it smells a lot lot more and a lot stinkier.


As for the dog food thing I always fed my dog Ol'roy because to get a good dog food it costs a lot and Ol'roy actually is pretty good compared to some of the other brands, and actually the verry best food is organic dog food but that is really really expensive (organic is better because it dosn't have chemicals in it that cause cancer and other health problems) . The amount of meat that is in the food is what matters, you want the first ingredient to be meat. I think that meat is the second ingredient in Ol'roy.

You know, oddly enough, I've always started my chicks and ducklings on Dumor starter feed. Last Spring, for the first time, I found a local source for Southern States feed, so bought their chick starter to brood the little ones.

The chicks did fine on it, but I had a lot of problems with the ducks and wry neck, feather picking, and other signs of vitamin deficiencies. I've not had a problem with Southern States feeds once they get bigger, but I think for brooding this year, I'm going to go back to Dumor. I'll be interested to see if I have the same problems again or not.

I bought some Dumor chick starter and it was really tiny chick starter!!!! But, I also thing it is higher in protien, too though! It makes the GREATEST mash! My chickies loved it! lol
