Is ETHER a humane way to euthanize? any info for me? DH wants to no

Awww, I'm sorry for your dilemma, especially after taking the time & effort to try & save them. But you're doing the right thing now, it's sad, but there comes a time when it is the kindest thing to do for our chickens.

If they're young chicks you may not need a hatchet or axe, a good sharp pair of scissors will do. Sometimes it helps to wrap the chick in a couple of paper towels, leaving the neck exposed, so you don't have to see it. If the chicks are a bit older, you could use a meat cleaver instead of an axe.

Sometimes it helps to have an impartial 3rd party do the deed, a friend or neighbor that you can trade the sad burden of dispatching each other's ill or injured animals, when necessary. The kindest thing you can do, the final favor for the animal, is to give it a sure quick end. When you're not so emotionally attatched to the animal you can concentrate better on doing the job quickly & well.

It is done

we had 3 of them. 2 silkies -1 buff-and 1 white one-the prettiest feathered white one I had with wry neck-no improvement at all-and it was starting to go down hill...1 EE too-so sad she was born with a severe leg deformity and was doing quite well for a while then just went down hill. We did it with very large pruning scissors-and did it over the grave we dug for them-My DH stepped up and did it while I held them-as sad at it was-I said a prayer before and after and apologized before-during and after. Im glad it's over for them and us-they deserved a better life than what they were dealt with...Thanks all for helping and coaching us to do what was right and fast~

Im sorry about your birds.

I used the baking soda and peroxide method and the bird was asleep and gone within minutes and doesn't cause pain but I don't see why they think it makes them suffer its just like taking them to the vet and putting them to sleep. I think its less traumatic for you too I would cry if I had to do that.

Thanks Susan-it sucked-I might have 1 more to have to take care of too-It just hatched out a few days ago and the leg looks broke or close to it-wont walk on it so I hand feed it and water it and do chicken PT-It moves and the chick doesnt cry really-we'll see in a few days. thank for the hugs!

I am sorry for your loss. I just had to do the same deed to my Silkie. But I am very fortunate to have had someone else do the deed for me. Just remember, it was better for them not to suffer.

You need to do it the fastest way possible... Chopping off the head or breaking the neck. Dont hesitate when you do it..do it hard and quick so it works and so they dont suffer for even a second. Good Luck, Wendy

I can only imagine how difficult this was. I’m glad you were able to save them from any future pain or suffering. You deserve a ginormous
