Is food for doves okay for chickens?

My mom couldnt find chicken feed at petco... so she got this instead


would is be ok for my chicken to eat it?

I'd say probably not, doves are very different from chickens, and thus, probably require very different diets. You probably won't find chicken food at Petco, so I'd try to find a nearby feed store. (We have Del's, Cenex, and Wilco in Washington, you might see if one of those is nearby...)

That would make a nice base for scratch. Add some Black Oil Sunflower seeds and some cracked corn and not only will your chickens enjoy eating this on the ground, (they scratch for good things to eat) but wild birds will eat it up too. I make my own using the ingredients above, sometimes I'll add wheat if it's available. Chicken food is a processed meal that comes either in crumble form or pellet form. This is what you want to feed them with, look under feed in the yellow pages. This web site has lots of info about how to feed. Good luck

Depending on how old your birds are, a proper chicken feed will look similar to Cream of Wheat or to rabbit food. If that seed is all you have to feed your (older) birds, it'll do them for a day or two until you can find real chicken food. But it's not going to be good to feed them that long-term. Depending on age, you can feed your chickens: bread, yogurt, oatmeal, leftover/wilting veggies, rice, beans, spaghetti, scrambled eggs, hamburger... just about anything you would eat! But this should not be all they eat. They need a balanced diet, and for that the best ways are actual chicken feed plus free-ranging if possible.

Pet stores are probably not going to have ANY chicken supplies. I think only one nearby me does, and even that is very, very limited. It's just easier to go to the feed store.
