Crocheters Thread

Anyone know how to deal with this? This is the Breton Stripe Moss stitch Sweater by For the Frills. Basically the back panel (completed one on the bottom) is the one I made first. This project was started 1 month or so ago. I chipped away at it while working on other projects. And when I realized my tension got dramatically tighter on my front panel (the smaller rectangle I started last week) it was too late to frog or change. I used the exact same amount of stitches, rows, etc, same hook (4.5mm) and same yarn (a thin dk acrylic yarn). Even the ribbing is a half inch too short even though it's the same amount of stitches. How do I fix this?

then I folded the top of the back panel to see it if matches bottom (this was crocheted from the bottom up) and surely enough its a whole lot skinnier. I know for a fact that there's the same amount of stitches.

Will blocking help with this even though it's such a huge difference AND made with acrylic yarn? I don't know what to do. Should I switch to a 5.0 mm hook now and worry about the unevenness later? Thanks in advance!
