I am wondering if he is a genetic throw back to whatever breeds were used to develop the Marans. Not sure if that is possible but I know that in some crittes like say Hound dogs occasionally you will get a pup that is not the right color for the breed it is supposed to be and usually it matches a breed that was used to develop that particular type of dog. Nothing wrong with the dog just screws up the registry. And tends to tick the breeder off.
