Is Frank really a pure Marans rooster??

I do think he could scare small children.... Great name!

As far as the feathering, it should go down the shank and the outside toes only. But I doubt you will be using this one in the breeding pen anyway.

*But hey, ya gotta have an odd-ball favorite running around right?

What makes you say turken genes?

well i'm not a chicken expert by any means so i could be wrong but if you look up turken rooster on google images they look alot like him, color wise too only they have naked necks... the feathers on his neck don't look as thick compared to the other marans... what do you think? am i totally wrong?

I actually just listed him on craigslist and explained his oddities.. Another person who saw his picture sent an email a suggested the turken possibility... I don't really know anything about turkens to know if this could be probable... He is loosing more neck feathers- he had them when he was younger.. maybe the other rooster is pulling them out? I've never seen them fight though.

I don't think he's likely to ever be quite normal since he has this unusual walk.. Don't know if this is a mismatch of genetics or some neurological thing.

I'm getting overrun with roosters, so if anybody wants their very own Frankenstein, he's free!

I think he is pure Black Copper. He has very nice feathering on the shanks. Hes just at that "ugly stage". His stance in the picture and some missing neck feathers make him look different.

When I first saw the pics, I thought ......he looks alot like a asel (game fowl) in the head. Very nice boy.

I just wondered how old he was becasue he reminded me of how mine looked in April and now mine has started putting on weight and changed quite a bit.

I think the issue I have with him is the eye color. Do Marans ever have green eyes?

Mine in April - skinny neck, goofy body coppering not quite right:

As he looks now - body has filled out and coloring has corrected itself:

Green eyed, odd posture, thinly feathered, I'd be thinking mix, either game or turken and turkens and turken mixes can be very heavy bodied.

Good luck placing him...
