Is Grit Really Needed?

Some people say chicks need grit. (or is it chickens?) My parents, on the other hand, say that everything the chicks need is starter feed. Is grit important for either chicks or chickens? Thank you for your help!

Grit is only needed if you're going to start offering treats. They don't need it for chick starter
