Is Gwen a Glen!?

I completely understand. I bought 4 females and ended up with 2 out of the 4 being boys. I'm still not happy with the store. I started calling them early on, because I had a feeling. Oh you don't have boys, not possible, they are all girls. My ass.

Yeah seriously! It's so frustrating. I'm now trying to decide if we should get two more chicks--and start the process of raising babies all over again--or just deal with the smaller flock. We already have two adults, but two of our hens died over the past year which is why we got new chicks, and the coop comfortably holds 5. Aishh. I'm also struggling with where to find a home for him, because even though I may sound like a crazy chicken lady, I do love them and don't want them to end up on somebody's plate. But I know that's the fate of most roosters...

For any of you still following this thread, could you help confirm whether Fiona is, in fact, a pullet? She looks very pullet-like to me, but has been butting heads with our newly discovered cockerel lately.

Fiona is a pullet, Glen is not. Not that is eases the pain but, probably most people have gotten duped by feed stores and hatcheries, either by wrong sex or wrong breeds, sometimes both.

Maybe submitting employees to a lie detector test would reveal if they are lying or just ignorant. Neither is good

In your first post you said they were quite bonded and you didn't look forward to breaking them up if he was a boy. I was going to reply don't worry just wait and you will see how bonded they are when his hormones kick in. Guess you don't have to wait :)

Ha! So true. I guess, what can you expect with $3 chicks?! Well, now more like $25 when you factor in food... or $500 when you add in the love the received. ;-) (My husband asked how I'll survive having children when I love our animals this much)

yeah, it may be an easier transition than I though! As I said, the reason I started wondering about Fiona is that the two of them started having little face-offs... she's always been a more independent feisty chick but after learning about Glen I began questioning whether she was a little dude too. If he turns into a huge dick (excuse my language) it won't be as sad to say goodbye, haha.
