Is he a RIR?

I am trying to produce Red Sex Link chicks from 10 Delaware hens and one of my roosters that is in my flock. I have many different breeds that includes RIR (ie, descendants of Cinnamon Queens).

I am just wondering if you guys think he is full blooded RIR. Why I question is due to his wattle being white, even though his earlobe is brown.

He is young, about 11 months old (picture at 9 months old) and my hens just started to lay, so, if need be, I'll obtain a pure bred RIR rooster.

He is not a RIR. He's a very nice looking cross bred cockerel.

It doesn't matter if he is a RIR or not. It doesn't matter if he is any specific breed or not. To make red sex links what matters is that he is pure for the gold gene while the hen has the silver gene.

The silver gene is dominant over the gold gene. That means if just one of the genes at that gene pair were silver he would be white instead of red. That is why you can make red sex links.

If you use that cockerel over Delaware hens you will make red sex links.

Not sure if you just mistyped this, but your roo's wattles are red. His earlobes are red, too, but they can discolor to white. From what I have read on this site, this happens from time to time. It does not seem to cause any discomfort, just appears to be a waxy discolor on the earlobes.

I was thinking he may have stood under the wrong place......... I need to check him again and see if that is still white.
