Is in normal for broodys to flog you? I mean beat the tar out of you!!

K. My other broody was a good broody in my book, she never attacked me but if I dog walked up or anything she would attack, I LIKE THAT BROODY lol.

On the other hand my australorp (the mean one) is a cranky girl, but i guess if its normal, its normal. She has brooded twice in her 1 year old life, the first time she was not that mean.

Yep, my little broody Goldie, the bantam Cochin in my avatar, will take on anything, size doesn't matter!

I love "some" broodies, my hen Chip will take any egg, even adopt chicks, nice to me, mean to anything else.

Sargent Mayham (australorp) different story...

One of our favorite pasttimes lately is watching my little tiny silkie Jethro kick butt on the three half grown roos, including TJ who towers over everyone else in the flock. Jethro's chicks are nearly 6 weeks old, but she still protects them well.

Love my broodies! (There Ranchy, I said it again.

Depends on the broody! I have a few hens that are sweetheart broodies, do nothing but puff up and maybe make a little noise when I reach under them. Then I have broodies like my serama hen Lexi, who acts like an ostrich on an overdose of caffeine if you try to do anything. She has one chick she hatched recently and two chicks she adopted, and if I reach into her pen for any reason she goes ballistic! Screaming bloody murder, spreading out her wings and tail to look as huge as possible, leaping wildly out of control to attack my hand... Crazy bird!

I have never seen a nuttier broody.
