Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

Awww! I'm so glad you helped it out! I think they're so neat!
He's in the army and got deployed over there. I think it was mandatory that he spend some of his enlistment over there.
Bummer! No Halloween! We always have soo much fun that day!
Oh! Extra toes! My faverolles have extra toes, and my houdans had extra toes. I think dorkings and silkies have them too. So cool! And you've got 2 now! That's great, they sound cute! I always try to choose a name for my chickens that suits how they look or act. You'll have to watch em and see what kind of personality they have and let me know! I'll think of some chick names for you and your in charge of dog names for me!

What fun!

On his back toe he has an extra one growing off of it like a branch.

How would you like some Greek names.

Ok so now for the bad news, first of all you need to know that i had the two chicks in a very safe place ( i thought) in my garage, i had one crate on the bottom with cardboard covering all the holes and one (crate) on top, i had it against the wall with insulation on it and then i had taken come chicken wire and put it over the place that the two handles met because there was a big hole there, then i put a chair on top for some weight so that nothing could knock it over and then to top it off i put the divider (that you see in the picture of my garage) around it just to be sure.
So i was feeling good about their little space in the garage and i fell asleep, luckily one of my friends called me in the night time and woke me up to ask me something so then i couldnt fall asleep, suddenly i hear Balto barking but not his bored bark his "something is out there" bark so i run outside (in my T-shirt and underwear) and i hear my chicks screaming in the garage so i run as fast as i can grab the bat that i had outside and get into the garage, pull the divider away to find a rat, a huge rat in their little cage, it had one little chicks in its mouth (dead) and was going for the other one, i was like "No you dont!!!" and wack it with the bat, he jumps out of the cage and goes running, poor little things (the chicks, not the rat) , i take the little baby that was left and bring him inside with me and put him in a little box beside my bed and had my hand in with him the rest of the night, in the morning i was really sad but relieved that i had saved at least one.
So i get out of bed and take the little guy with me to collect the eggs, when i hear peeping, i was like were is that coming from, so i walk towards it and i keep walking and walking till i come to a fig tree that i have in my yard, so i look under it to find a mama hen and seven little babies.
ep.gif
So i run inside to get a basket and my two nets (one for the hen and one for the chicks, i have different ones), put my little angel back in his box and run out to catch some chicks, when i get out there they are no where to be found so i search everywere and still nothing, i though i was going mad when i hear peeping again and i look in the neighbours field and see the chicks with their mom running towards a pile of rocks, so i jump into the neighbours field (hoping that no one will see me) and try to cut them off before they get to the rocks ( i was not very succesfull) i caught the mom but the little chicks squeezed into the pile of rocks.

I let the mom go hoping that she would call the chicks out and she dissapears into the fig tree again so i leave her be and try taking some of the rocks out, making sure there are no snakes and i see a little fuzzy butt so i keep taking rocks out and i finally reach that one chick (yay) six more to go, this went on for about two hours when i finally managed to find them all, one was a little injured on its head but nothing serious so i took them all inside and gave them food and water, they were starving and very thirsty they looked like they were about a week old, i cant believe i hadnt noticed them before hand. I built them a small coop and go looking for the mom, it was not very easy catching her but i did and i put them all in the little pen with food and water.
After a while i decided to try and put the little remaining chick with them so he wouldnt be lonely but the mom wouldnt take him (dont know why) so i took one of the chicks and put him in the box with him and they are getting along great.
Two of the seven chicks are black, four are light brown and one yellow, i took one of the light brown ones.
They look like little Oliver just much bigger.
In some parts of my "story" it sounds like i am exaggerating but i really am not!

A rat!

I hate those things! I wish you had been able to kill it! They are horrible! I had one get in my house once (they live out in the silos and eat beans and corn) and I actually went and got my little 4-10 rifle and shot it right in the house. (the bullets aren't big enough to damage anything but the rat) I knew I wouldn't be able to catch it any other way and I worried it might bite one of my girls in the night! Ugh, I can't stand them. That poor little chick! How awful.

Good job Balto for sounding the alarm!!!

I'm so glad you were able to save the one! And now it has a little friend again already!

OMG! I was cracking up reading how you wrangled up those chicks!

That was the best! I can't believe there've been 7 chicks out there for a week! How funny! She must be a sneaky mama! I'm so glad some look like Oliver! You never know, maybe one is Oliver come back! Haha, I'm still laughing thinking about it! Running after chicks with nets! Did you have to jump the fence to get in the field? And then having to dig thru rocks to get to them! My cheeks hurt from laughing! That's definitely an adventure!
What are you going to do about the rat? If there's one there's always more. Although getting whacked with a bat would definitely keep me from coming back! I use peppermint oil to keep mice away and moth balls work sometimes too.
You might have to get some of that hardware mesh for the chick pens. It's like chicken wire but the holes are little squares instead of holes. Even mice can't get thru it. You could make a cirlce of it then put some over the top and weight it down. It sounded like you had it battened down like fort knox before, probably safe from anything but that nasty rat!
So what's your chicken count with the new ones now?

Here's one of my salmon faverolles. I was trying to take a pic of her extra toes but she sits right down every time I pick her up so I couln't get a shot. She funny looking right now while her feathers are coming in and her colors aren't what they're supposed to be for her breed(she's WAY too dark, if you looked up a pic of salmon favs they're like cream and tan and white, mine aren't even close, they're beards are coming in almost black) but I guess that's what I get for ordering this kind of chicken from a hatchery. I'm not too dissapointed tho because I think they're going to be beautiful anyway. And they're both super sweet!

I ended up taking pics of a few of them since they were all jumping up to be held! This is one of my speckled sussex. I love the coloring on these too. And they have greenish eyes. Pretty!

And here's Chouette(I named her that cause she reminds me of a snowy owl) See her feathered feet? She's one of my favorites, she runs up and wants to be picked up as soon as she sees me! She's a light brahma.

I wanted to kill it but i am terrified of them and also i was more concerned of getting to the little chick .
I am glad you killed it, can you imagine it biting on of them?!
Actually i am a pretty heavy sleeper so i wouldnt have heard Balto so i am really glad my friend called and woke me up.
How do you catch your chicks, dont you have nets?
I have already put down a ton of sticky traps that they get stuck in whick is kind of cruel but at this point i want him to die, they are such filthy animals...
I have the two little ones in the house now in Mac's old cage so that nothing can get in and they cant get out, i let them out every hour so that they can scratch about and they love it, they dont want to go back in after but it is for their own safety, so i dont feel very bad.
Well i have 5 roosters and about 25 chickens in the coop, plus all the chicks and some other chickens that dont want to go back in the coop that i have to go find so i would say about 50 chickens/roosters/chicks.
You have 34 right?
