Is it a hawk or something else?

Having shrubs to run under, etc, does help, but I have had a hawk land and walk under a shrub, also, and get the chicken hiding there.

I love this forum because I learn sooo much. I thought a hawk had to swoop down, grab it's prey, then fly away. I didn't realize they could land, grab, then take off again. Makes me wonder if my chicken pen is as safe as I thought it was.

This hawk didn't take off again--he was going to stand there pulling it apart and eating it. I was a distance away, and by the time I made it there, he had it killed and was starting to eat.

That is terrible!!

. Is it illegal to shoot a hawk that is threatening your animals on your own property? It seems like there would be conditions for that. When my chickens were taken, all that was left was a dead roo and feathers from two missing hens. My other roo lost his tail feathers and was pretty shaken. I still am not sure it was a hawk.

I really like your 3-s method! Especially if I catch one red-handed. Never knew losing a couple of chickens would be so heartbreaking.

. I can't imagine seeing it happen!
