When I bought my 4 week old pullets, the lady said it was hard to tell male from female on the light Brahma. This the only one I have of this breed. What do I have? The chickens are 16 weeks now. I wanted all hens. I have no plans to hatch eggs. The lady said if it ended up being a male, she would swap it. But it is such a part of a happy flock, I would hate to do that. What would be the advantages of keeping a rooster if you had no intention of raising chicks?

Either you have a pullet, or you have a cockerel too young to show a red comb yet. At that age, I think it's a pullet.

She will eventually get a red comb too--when she's about ready to start laying eggs.
