Is it a male?

they not in lay yet so the male wont have the larger vent

wait till they in lay and you will know for sure

till then remove the range quail as the other 2 are defo girls

I let them out for an hour long dirt bath in my garden and didn't observe any aggressive behaviour. I grabbed an ice cream pail, turned it upside down and cut a hole/door in it. I placed it over each of the birds and Sweetie (injured beak) seemed to appreciate it the most.

I may be getting a little obsessed with this, but hopefully the people on this forum are equally obsessed and won't mind too much.

No need to be obsessed about it, however you need to pay much attention to your quail at first, so you can offer them the most enjoyable life possible. You want them to be comfortable, no stress and live in the most natural of environments as possible. In addition to the flower pots, you might cut some branches from a near by tree and prop them up in the corners or a brush pile in the middle for a natural hidey. Quail do not like to be exposed on the ground in aviary style settings. Makes them nervous. You might two sides of the area so that they only see out of 1 or 2 sides. In the wild, quail hide in the underbrush all day long. So offer them up a similar environment. :)

Make sure they are on a good diet of gamebird food, also offer up greens, quartered fruit, veggies, mealworms, etc...so as to not only break up the boredom but give them some added health benifits that gamebird food can not offer. Coming with a bag of goodies will also help them bond with you.

Keep them in a low traffic area without dogs or kids playing as well.
