Is it alright for standard cochins to roost?

Somewhere I read that standard cochins should not be aloud to roost (if showing) because it makes their breast sag or something like that. I cannot find the article.

I have never offered my cochins a roost because of it. Lately they seem like they want to roost as they are getting up on anything they can. Will letting them roost all night, every night, cause anything to happen to them that will give them an incorrect shape for showing? I know, sounds like a weird question, lol.

Well, I have never heard that one! I am curious to know the answer myself. Personally, in my quest for good show cochins, I have been in several coops of exceptional birds, and they all had roosts! My own birds love thier roosts!

I will watch this thread, and learn with you!

So I guess I am the only one that ever heard this. I wish I can remember exactly what the article said about it. I just know it said it was not good for them to roost. Maybe I will come across it.

Hey Jeanette! My girls from you love to roost but I'm not showing them so I don't know about that. Their roost is only 2 feet off the floor since they are in an elevated coop.

3 of the 4 are laying now, only one slacker but man are they beautiful! Let me know what you have this Spring. Might have friends that want a couple of blue girls if you have them!

If you give them something like a 2 x 4 with the 4 inch side for them to perch on you don't have to worry about them tipping forward and the weight extending to the front of the body.

I gave my cochin bantams a 2x4 roost so they would be up off the floor of the coop where its colder and also it helps keep their pants clean.- er, so I think!
Giving them a roost would keep warmer feet and also up off the droppings on the floor. (Less washing)

It's supposedly true....but...my bird is a show bird and she hates to roost. She prefers to sleep on the ground inside of the coop which is elevated off of the REAL ground.

So...she does her own maintenance for me! lol

I put up shelving boards for mine to roost on instead of skinny boards. It takes more time to clean, but they seem to like that they can snuggle down on them.
