Is it Bad Math?

Oh yeah startingaflock go ahead and make it sound simple. Hmmmm I guess that is pretty simple. and Ridgerunner, I am not sure I actually hit the send button but i posting something similar several days ago. i notice that a lot of people set eggs when they get home from work, but then jump out of bed early in the morning on day 21 and stress all day that eggs are not hatching. A "Day" is a 24 hour period of time. it takes a long time to pass. It takes 21 of those 24 hour periods to pass "Before" hatching should even begin. the hatching process can take another 2 24 hour periods. for a total 23 days. and that means 23 full 24 hour periods. and then only if your temp was not to low which can make it even longer. of course very much different will usually result in chicks that are harmed in some way and may not even survive. I have also seen it put this way. you do not set a timer and have the tops pop off the eggs at exactly 304 hours 00minutes and 00 seconds. I am working on a breed that does just that though, but those eggs are going to be Expeeeeeensive. but not as expensive as the therapy needed after all the trauma caused by current eggs.

Thanks for all the great math! I did jump out of bed this morning to find my pipped Salmon Faverolle stumbling around the bator. No more pips yet. I am hoping, hoping, and hoping! But for your viewing enjoyment, I present Chick #1:

Congrats! Was that the one that was pipped for 12 hours? If so, she's a drama queen.

So, I know what you'll be doing today......staring at the bator! Tell the other ones to hurry it up already!

Yep, she pipped yesterday and hatched during the night. She's pretty fluffy so I think she hatched probably five minutes after I pried my face off the plastic bator cover and went to bed. She's not just a drama queen, she's cruel, cruel I tell ya'! And she can be a boy if she wants because she and her other shellmate are sold to the person buying my Salmon Fav pair. But I love her already.

I decided that would be selfish to keep a hen because I am not breeding them. The lady who bought them wants to help in the effort to preserve the breed and she is very anxious to do so. It will leave more room for Icelandics! I just hope the other one hatches.

They are laying there, mocking me.

Didn't you explain to them that you need the bator for the Icelandics and they are officially evicted?
