Is it best to separate Easter Eggers from the rest of the flock?

Now that REALLY surprised me and proves my thinking is wrong. I guess I just happened to get 2 the same. Actually 3 the same but one died young. She was just like them.

EE's aren't really a breed. They're mutts. Araucanas and Ameraucana's are actual breeds. EE's are the result of crossing one of those 2 breeds (or possibly another breed or two that lays blue eggs, I'm not sure about that) with anything else. So there's a wide variety of colors, breed mixes, temperament, and so on, among EE's. The only set trait is that they lay colored eggs, and those may be blue, green, pink, or brown.

Hi,

I have only one EE and she is in a very mixed flock, including Leghorns, Silkies, and Frizzles. They all seem to get along quite well and it seems that the EE is at the top of the pecking order or near the top. They also have been all "cooped up" for the winter and still haven't gotten on each other's nerves! Genie

I have 5 EE's and they all live with my other girls. I don't have any problems.

That's funny because Martha gave me some stock advise once...

my ee is the queen of the flock and she is one of the smallest. guess it depends on the bird.

As for Martha well I suspect she cant handle mixing the green eggs with the brown ones, not color cordinated enough!

I have 7 EE's and they get along great with the other hens. My flock free ranges and the EE's are the best foragers. I will get more of these in the future, I love them. They are so pretty and I enjoy watching them around the farm.

Long live the "mutts"!

I think it just depends what they're mixed with. Some are extremely docile and others are more aggressive.

Mine apparently had some mean relatives, because they were really bad at pecking my other hens. They were all free range and had 5 square feet per chicken in the coop. Mine might have gotten along with more aggressive breeds, but I had them in with partridge rocks, Sussex, Faverolles and Dorkings. Not exactly the bad girls of the chicken world.
