Is it better to have pure breed chickens or not?

Also to take in consideration is that quite a few chicks that hatch will be males.

And lots of people resort to giving them away or eating them themselves because there isn't much market for them unless they are a meat breed or, to a lesser extent, a dual breed. Most people seem to want to buy pullets for eggs, especially in the birds that you grow out to point-of-lay. Day-olds are a lot easier to sell as straight run than older birds are.

Buying pullets that are close to lay take alot of the hassle of having to raise them since babies. I know alot of people do not want to raise them for 20 weeks or so and waste all that feed.

Red Stars = White Leghorn Rooster over RIR hen

ah turn that around.....

red stars and golden comets

are bred from a red male (RIR or NHR) over a silver carring hen (normally a white hen WLH, or RIWs).

The roo HAS to be red and the hen HAS to carry the silver gene. Not the other way around. If you breed hte other way around you will not get sex linked genes.
