Needing help identifying if our 4 month old chicken has coccidiosis!
For a couple days she’s slowly gotten seemingly more lathargic. Nothing too concerning initially but last night we knew something was off.
We quarantined her last night and started the flock on Corid this morning as we suspected cocci. She’s not eating much ( will take a bite on occasion but just not interested), and we’ve given her water 5ml 4x/ day just to try and keep her hydrated.
Tonight while giving her water she popped and her poop was filled with neon green streaks and super watery ( see picture ). I heard Corid works fast so not I’m not sure what to think. Does it look like Cocci? Something else??I assume we should stick with the corid treatment, but wondering why it isnt as effective as I’ve heard… Would love any ideas or thoughts from others.

Also should we still keep her isolated if we’re treating the whole flock anyways? And when you hydrate your birds how much water do you give them a day??

Please help! We love her so much

I wouldn’t keep her separated unless she is being picked on or kept from eating and drinking. Make sure that she is taking food/water or feed her several times a day. Coccidiosis is usually not the problem at 4 weeks, but is possible. More likely she could be sick from something else such as a reproductive disorder or infection. Do you have any antibiotics such as amoxicillin or enrofloxacin/Baytril? Bactrim or SMZ TMP ?

She’s 4 months old not 4 weeks . And no, I don’t have access to any meds . Our vet doesn’t see chickens so unless I can purchase it over the counter somewhere I’m not sure how to get other meds 🫤. If it’s not cocci and I put her back with the rest of the flock , isn’t there a chance others will get sick too?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We’ve have chickens for 4 years and this is our first ever illness 😵‍💫

Wow - to have chickens for four years and this is your first illness!! That's incredible - great job on keeping them healthy.

You can find meds for poultry online at TractorSupply.com, Jedds.com, Amazon and Mikesfalconry.com.

Our hens poo starting looking similar to that in the last couple of days so we also started Corid. It's a good place to start. Follow that with vitamins and electrolytes. Hopefully that will help.
