is it common for hens to crow?

So I got some baby chicks about 3 months ago and was told if they are brown then they are hens, we just got rid of three white chicks because they started crowing now all of a sudden one of the brown ones that doesn't resemble a rooster at all stated crowing. Will one always crow even if I know for sure they are hens?

! Happy you joined our flock! I've heard of hens crowing but I think it's a rare event. You might want to post a pic of the crowing bird in the link below - just in case it's a roo in disguise!

:welcome and good luck with your poultry adventure! :frow It's more than likely a late bloomer rooster, but if you post some picture in the "what gender is this" forum, you can get some clarification on that :)
